Well, what can I say to review the stellar performance we were treated to at the Village Inn. My feelings regarding the food are quite difficult to express in words but here goes. If you like greasy and cold food, with a texture akin to tyre tread then I can recommend anything off the skillets menu. The other breakfast items we sampled offered very little in the way of improvement. The service was worthy of the food, I'm afraid, and it was clear that the restaurant was drastically understaffed. In a dirty uniform and with a distracted manner, our server frightened us more than once by nearly dropping full glasses and plates. For a restaurant which boasts of all-day breakfast the coffee was exceptionally poor, being both burnt and watered down. Generally I am a big fan of a well cooked breakfast, and I was not a fan of this Village Inn. It is certainly possible that they were just having a bad day, and for the sake of the good people of Ames...I sincerely hope so. |
