Having never been here, I don't know if a visit on Mother's Day is a fair assessment, but I hope so.
There was a special menu for the day; none of the regular items were available. Even though it was very busy, we were seated and attended to promptly.
First we were given a basket of wonderful warm crusty bread with balsamic vinegar and oil for dipping. We decided to split a bowl of gazpacho for starters. Though it was billed as 'iced gazpacho with rock shrimp' I think they should have skipped the shrimp, which were almost tasteless. And although we are more used to gazpacho with chunks of veggies in it, this was more like a puree. It was still quite tasty.
The two entrees we chose were scrambled eggs with chorizo, and seafood crepes in (Hollandaise?) sauce. The eggs were superb. They were accompanied by some fantastic roasted new potatoes and a good-sized homemade flour tortilla. Likewise, the crepes were delicious. They were surrounded by fresh spinach.
Prices were a bit steep - $11 for the eggs and about $15 for the crepes. The food was great, but we still felt like the prices were higher than they should have been.
It was nice to see Roy Harland in the kitchen making Fresno diners happy. If this food is typical of their quality, we'll go back and try the standard menu when we're feeling like splurging. |

I went here with my girlfriend. The place had a less than outstanding menu, and I asked if I could order off the lunch menu which was more appealing. They said fine, but when the bill came they charged me $10 more for my plate, and they said it was because I ate it here. I asked what else was I to do, leave?! I talked to the manager and he said I must pay and he doesn't care if I ever stepped foot in his place again. |

This is a very relaxing restaurant with an interesting, unique menu. The meat here is always prepared with a twist, such as ribeye dripping with horseradish butter. The meats in particular are well-chosen, never tough or tasteless. If one is daring, there is always a Thai dish on the menu or a fresh fish special. Try the sand dabs if you are looking for fish. Service here is adequate but not intrusive. Don't expect a great deal of attention, but do expect it to be light, attentive and there when you need it. Don't miss the chocolate truffle tower for dessert! |
