Dec 23rd, 2003 |
Arrived on a Monday evening around 5:15 p.m. Restaurant was not very busy and was a bit irritated that we were seated in the bar area. The hostess didn't take a hit when I demanded to know if smoking was allowed there. Ugh! If we wanted to sit in a bar we would have gone to a bar.
We noticed that they had a special, the turkey dinner, with salad bar for $9.99. That turned out to be an excellent deal. More on the dinner in a moment.
The salad bar was, as usual, fairly abundant. Yet, both the macaroni salad and the potato salad were quite yellowed and I felt both were unfit to eat, especially since they are both mayonaise based. I mentioned this later to our bartender/server who said that he would take care of it. He said he would, and thanked me for the observation, which showed that he had a good sense of customer relations. I didn't go back to check and see of they had replaced the two salads or just stirred them.
The dinners were plentiful, each had three large, thick slices of turkey breast over a nice dressing, they came with a nice hearty side of masked potatoes that had the taste and texture of real potatoes. The gravy was nice and the side veggies were good -- sauteed brocolli, baby carrots and squash, sprinkled with Parmesian cheese, which my companion didn't care for. It would have been nicer to have the cheeses in a small dish or have the server add it, but this is a minor quibble.
We skipped desert, mostly because of the good size of the entree. here were enough leftovers to make a nice lunch for one tomorrow. |
